Chaos and the High God Chaos and the High God are the highest beings in the cosmology of Krynn. They are mysterious but widely credited with a role in the creation of the world. Chaos is formless existence. It seeks to undo everything that exists. The gods of Krynn come from Chaos, and the Graygem that causes the Chaos War is forged from that essence. When the Graygem is destroyed, a minuscule fraction is released as an aspect of wrath and evil.
The High God is the divine representation of order and creation. It brings the gods of Krynn into existence and gives them the task of creating the world and all in it. Its plan for the world is recorded in the Tobril, which Gilean holds. The High God watches the world but rarely interferes. It has only interfered in the world once, during the All-Saints War, to prevent the destruction of the world. Afterwards, it decrees that the gods can each give one gift to the beings of the world. Following this the creatures of Krynn came into existence and the High God retreated. The High God is the opposite of Chaos and opposes it. Neither the High God nor Chaos grants power to clerics, and neither follows the principles of Good, Evil, or Neutrality. They almost never come into play during a Dragonlance campaign.
